Tea Party Quilt, Revisited

Today I thought I should talk about a quilt. It's been a while since I've done that. Of course, you know that I haven't finished a quilt since early last year. Haven't even worked on one to tell the truth. The other day I told someone that if I didn't do some quilting soon, "they" would come and take away my quilting "license." Whoever they are. Whatever the license is.

I have asked myself recently whether I would ever make a quilt again. There are several in the UFO drawer, just sitting there waiting on me to decide to do something. Will those get finished? I don't know. Lately I've been so involved with embroidery and crochet, finishing a quilt has gone on the back burner. Having FUN with what I am doing seems pretty important these days, however, having quilts in that drawer is making me feel kind of guilty....so what do I do? I'm torn.

I sometimes tend to work on things revolving around some "event" that is coming up. For me, this year, it is our guild retreat in September at which I will be teaching that pincushion class you've heard me talk about. So, all year I have become completely obsessed with pincushions. You know that. And, there is no sign of letting up. But, I do think that when I'm through this "phase" I will probably work on a quilt. Of course, it will probably have to have some embroidery on it!!!!

I think I posted photographs of this quilt last year, but today I was too lazy to look it up....and, maybe you are new to this blog and didn't see it anyway. This is one of my favorite quilts I have ever made. It was easy, I liked the way it looked, loved the fabric, and as you can see....it has embroidery!!! And, a basket....another of my favorite things.

All my applique is done by hand....some of this is done in reverse applique. And, all of my quilting is done by hand too. I'm just a pushover for handwork. Let's face it....everything I do is by hand....no apologies. The hand appliqued on this quilt just so happens to be mine. It was reduced to two-thirds real size.....to fit on the block. Get it? My hand, appliqued by my hand!
Well, ok, so it's not that funny......

I don't believe I ever have shown the back of this quilt....loved that fabric (shall I say I'm also a pushover for floral fabric!), and also love writing on fabric...hence the label.

So, there you have it for today....a reminder that I really can quilt....I just take a detour every now and again!!! What about you? Take care, pat

Just as a side note, I think I may reduce this basket down in size and see what I can do with it on a pincushion or something....what do you think? Pat

Pat, I love this quilt!!! And, I'm not sure I've seen it before, in person or on your blog, except that I did see it in the background in a recent picture on your blog and had the same thought, "Wow, I love that quilt! Have I seen that?!?" The fabrics are wonderful, the designs are precious and the embroidery, well, it's just the perfect touch. I can't wait to see it in person. In fact, I'm starting to feel the need to make a "sane" quilt again myself.

And I love this quilt very much ever since I found it on one of your older posts. Black fabric with roses has always been one of my favorites - so rich and romantic looking. I also love your embroidered foliage in the basket...and the teapot is just perfect too! In fact, I love everything about this quilt. Actually you may have inspired me to dig out one of my UFO's too.
Lovely work...love your blog!

I love this quilt. The hand quilting, the open spaces for stitching, the embroidery... I really need to do more embroidery and learn some of those fancy stitches you do so nicely! What book do you recommend?

As far as UFO's go, as I've gotten older, it's been important for me to start completing them periodically and not starting anything I can't finish. Might be old age setting in... "Who will finish this quilt when I'm gone?"

I really like how you finish off the back of your quilt. I'm calling it "quilt journaling"

Pat!!! That quilt is absolutely adorable! I love it! So sweet and so well done! You are so gifted.

Yes, I think the little basket would look cute as a pincushion! How sweet! :)

Pat, if I didn't have 9 different craft/sewing projects going at the same time I would go nuts. It gives ones creative soul options to go in different directions for what it is feeling at the moment. Right now I am in a crocheting phase. I have 2 blankets, pillows and a shawl all started and I'm looking at something else to start because it isn't enough! It all gets done eventually, and I just bought a new applique quilt book and material to get started on that because I feel my interests shifting....again. Good thing there are more than 24 hours in a day! :^)

I love this quilt! The colors are so pretty and your needlework is awesome.

Now someone told me once that the quilt police never come, there are no rules in quilting and you are only a true quilter if you have UFO's. So you go girl!
