Autumn Leaves

I was born in Autumn and it has always been my very favorite season.  Now, why is that since I seem to suffer moods of melancholy the whole of the season?  I cannot be explained.  That's all there is to it. One of my favorite quotes is from Tallulah Bankhead.  She said, "No one can be like me...even I have trouble doing it."  Well, me too!

I'm always sad the leaves are falling...but glad they are so beautiful.  I went out the other day and found as many pretty ones as I could and brought them in.  Not many here this year.  In fact, the ones in these photos are not from this year.  The trees here this year are just not at all colorful.  Must be the weird weather we have had....or they are late changing, or something.  But, looking at these photos reminds me of Autumns past and I remember.  These trees are down at the end of the street I've just moved from.  And, these photos were taken two or three years ago.  Weren't they beautiful?

Not to be really depressing, at the moment, but to "just remember", I have to quote the lyrics from one of my very favorite songs.  The old navy man and I both loved it.  He could sing it and so could
Nat King Cole.

AUTUMN LEAVES
Lyrics by Johnny Mercer

The falling leaves drift by the window
the autumn leaves of red and gold
I see your lips, the summer kisses
the sun-burned hands I used to hold

Since you went away the days grow long
And soon I'll hear old winter's song
But I miss you most of all my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall.

Much Autumn Beauty to you!

(And, remember to comment on my previous post to win a scarf!)

Until Saturday, October 18th, take care.  ♥ pat

Funny how something triggers a memory. My second and third grade teacher was Mrs. Brown. I was great friends with her and often went to her house after school to hang out with her. I remember her telling me that "The Autumn Leaves" was her favorite song. Mrs. Brown is one of my fondest memories in a sad childhood.

I think your tree color situation is far different than ours in Northern Indiana. The tree in our front yard is a Sugar Maple. I was told that if it gets enough water during the summer, we will be rewarded with magnificent color in the fall. It transforms to a brilliant red and this year we are certain to be rewarded. It is just starting to change. Many tree here have changed, I feel just a little early, but that is probably because we have had such a long string of cloudy days in the last few weeks. No sun in the forcast until Saturday! I've lost track of the last sunny day..I think it was last Friday.

Well I enjoyed your pic stash. Glad you got out for a look around the neighborhood.
xx, Carol

Love the quote from Tallulah Bankhead, sounds like me.
Love the colors, the trees are just beautiful. Ours haven't quite got that way yet. Take care

I think Fall is a time of reflection, don't you? Where Spring is a time of rebirth, in the Fall you tend to look back. Plus we know that dang winter is coming. Living in the 4 seasons area that we do, we should be used to it.

No beautiful fall colors here in Kansas, either. There's a scarlet maple across the street that should be blazing by now. Just a few red patches. Since we sometimes get freak ice and snow storms in October, these trees better be shedding their leaves or we'll be losing the few good trees that we've got!

Stay strong, my friend. You're a force of nature, as well.

Hugs
Cindy

I think I love Autumn because it's not only beautiful but a bit sad, too. My birthday is November and I love Poe, so it seems that everything fits together in this season for me. I also love it because I know that all will be closed up soon and I can sit in my little nest and read and be artsy fartsy and do word games. My favorite things.

Take care, Pat. Enjoy those leaves and all of the smells and visions that Autumn brings.

The dogwoods have begun to turn color but I really miss those sugar maples in Ohio, all across the gently rolling hills.

Just like you, I totally adore the season with all its lovely colors. The fleeting time in the withering branches and their fall to the ground is a time that's almost magical. I was born in winter, but fall has always been my favorite season. Thank you so much for sharing that! I hope you're in the best of health!
