I Guess You Could Call It An Unwanted Adventure

Life has not been "normal" at The Junk House for the last few weeks.
Seems we were in for a little adventure.
A lady from out of town apparently was so happy to be visiting the store that she just drove her car right on in.
This was probably a shock to her two sisters who were passengers in the car.
In addition to the 'adventure,' I guess you could say it was a lucky day as not a single person was hurt.
A miracle, for sure, as glass went everywhere, not to mention all the inventory in the front of the store....and a CAR!

Some of the resulting damage.

I'm amazed that the front door is still standing!

Did I say how hot it was?

This photo was taken today.  Still waiting on glass.
The windows still covered with plywood and tarps.

Fortunately, it looks pretty normal here,

So, I took a few photos from around the store....life goes on, you know.
This huge old cabinet...it's about eight feet long....a massive amount of work surface and underneath storage.
I always want the big huge pieces like this.
Maybe I should be living in a barn rather than a house!

And, this beautiful display cabinet is just gorgeous!

 Goodies everywhere!

And, this work table, another eight foot piece.....is to die for....great size and the perfect height!
That blue cabinet thing....Kathy thought it was a trunk....until opened to reveal a writing desk with drawers, inkwells, etc.

 Someone moving in.

And, here is my little space.  Several new items...Butterfly/wicker tray on top of that filing cabinet and a few dishes, picture frames, and other things added.

So, life at The Junk House continues.
And, we are grateful.

until next time

A Little Primitive Table, A Lot of "Stuff"

I'm going to tell you a story on Wednesday night, along with some photos.  In a way, it's kind of an adventure.  The kind you don't want to have.  But, for tonight...I'm just going to show you my latest acquisition....this little primitive table.  So cute.  This window is in my bedroom/studio.  My favorite time of day in this room...is when the morning light makes stitches, threads, and fabrics look the best.
Did I choose that light to take these photos in?  Well, no.  I simply forgot I wanted to do that and by the time I remembered...the light was gone.
And, now, these will have to do.

You've seen all this "stuff" before...well, most of it anyway.
I enjoy making these little "collections."

So hope you enjoy seeing them once again.

 Hearts.
There are always hearts here.
One of my favorite things....the Daisy Chain Beaded necklaces there on the left.
They are so sweet!
The light blue one I've had for a very long time.
I paid ten cents for it.
LOVE!

I also love the tiny houses here.
One on the teacup and one on that little vase.
Inspiration for stitching for sure.

Love the black card of buttons.  OLD.
And, the little heart box.

Old button cards....all white.
They are everywhere in my house.
And, I never tire of them.

The color of this thread....my very favorite these days.
"Just the color" of lots of old crochet and tatting.

"Stuff."
I ordered more of these heart straight pins the other day.
Hopefully to include on several projects.
If I can just get my act together.

And, Oh My!
I love these old hat pins in this vintage silver plate sugar bowl pincushion.

And, here we are.
I find myself standing here looking at this collection sometimes several times in a day.
By the way....Kathy and I could not decide if this 'curtain' is really for the bed or for the table.
We decided it could be for a window.
So of course, I like seeing the light come through the window in the mornings, making everything glow.
Even the embroidery on all that netting.

Y'all take care out there.
See you late Wednesday.

"BLENDED EMBROIDERY," an heirloom book by Brian Haggard

I am very pleased to show you the latest book by my very dear friend,
 Brian Haggard

BLENDED EMBROIDERY
is a wonderful addition to his list of heirloom embroidery books and, as always, owning each of them is blessing as far as I'm concerned.
I call his books "heirloom" embroidery as I consider them books to hand down and preserve.  Also, his actual stitched quilts and other objects themselves are heirlooms.
Yours will be too if you learn the lessons he is so beautifully presenting in these books.

THE CRAZY HABERDASHER'S INSPIRING LIFE:
Stories Told Through Embroidery

BLENDED EMBROIDERY

This book is packed full of wonderful ideas, as the cover says:
Combining Old and New Textiles, Ephemera & Embroidery.
Oh my, is it ever!
I'm recommending you buy the book, sit down with a nice hot cup of tea, and prepare to be amazed.  (Actually, I consider it a religious experience!)
Afterwards, go take a look at all those old pieces you have and imagine them glorified in new ways.
Not only is the book beautiful to look at....it will inspire you to use what you love to do to enhance many things you already own.

Here is my autographed copy.
So very special to me.

Just take a look at this photo...
well, all the photos are absolutely gorgeous and taken in his home.
He is a designer, after all, and you see that on every single page.

It didn't escape my notice that he has displayed the pincushion I made him "under glass."
See it there on the upper right.

Actually,  that pincushion is living a much nicer life than I would ever have imagined. ❤️

On this page, Brian talks about visiting my home.
I was able to see him do a bit of work on this piece.
It was a wonderful experience!
And, I was happy to share that vintage quilt with him.
One of those times when you just want to say
 "O, Happy Day!!!"

  Best of friends, indeed!

Two of the gorgeous pages in the book..........you will enjoy them all, I do believe.

One of my favorite projects in the book is these pincushions/sachets he has created.
Absolutely adorable.
I like that he fills a bowl with them for certain guests who visit.
 Lucky visitors!
(Who does that these days?)
It's a wonderful idea....a great one when you want to share a 'little something special."

I'm thinking it might be a good way to share with those who might visit a certain blog
on a certain birthday.

 (Thanks for the idea, Brian!)

And, I just picked a random page to show you from the book.
So beautiful!!!

If you love embroidery, you will love the book.

A Little Trunk, Filled

There's this little trunk that lives in my dining room.  It's FULL of stuff.  Some stuff leaves the trunk from time to time and new old stuff takes it's place.   Years ago, I decorated the inside of the lid with a beautiful bird and roses over top of some antique ledger sheets which came out of a ledger in the office of my son-in-law's family store.

(I'll show that further in this post.)

Otherwise it is unchanged from when I bought it.  It's a really fun thing to fill and refill.

So, here are some of the goodies (and there are things underneath things!) The sweetest cup with a mismatched saucer.  A really cute heart I bought for, I think, a quarter some years ago.  A hanky from Kathy's flea market I brought home last week.  The tiniest cross-stitch.  Under that is an embroidered rose, also from Kathy's.
There's a cross-stitch rose there on a blue background...so pretty.  A quilt square from the 30's.

A pink embroidered pincushion I made, a McCoy flower vase filled with perle cotton.
A silk ribbon bag filled with lavender.  A silk rose.  Behind that pincushion is a swatch of fabric I liked the colors of....and,

a wonderful pin I bought at the Houston Quilt Festival years ago.
It looks like a tiny quilt.  Just gorgeous!
And, then...the angel frame...holds a photo of my daughter and her son.
So cute!

That tiny stitching on a handkerchief.

One of my very favorite quotes from artist Katie Daisy.
And, I say it all the time.
When I drive down a country road and see all the wildflowers this is what runs through my mind.

 A closeup.

 And another.

 And, more.

My favorite colors.
❤️

So, here is the inside of the trunk lid.  I covered the inside of the lid with ledger paper, then added paper napkins over it.  Those roses....just loved them and I really like the way it turned out.

Using paper napkins this way is really easy and lots of fun.

And, here is the bird....from another paper napkin.
I'm very fond of this little trunk and do enjoy
filling it with different things from time to time.

So, another Wednesday.
I think they go by really fast.
So,  I guess I'll say again...see you Sunday!
