Pincushions and Scissors

I decided over the weekend to post some pincushions....and because I had launched a search of the house and garage for any scissors that might live here, well, I decided to post the scissors also. To be honest, I'll fess up........there are about twenty more scissors than shown here.  Who knew?  Not so many pincushions, although I could have come up with a few more of those.  And, you don't think I'm a hoarder.  Oh, my!

I love this pincushion....and the hat pins.  Also, There is a safety pin which holds four heart buttons,  given me many years ago by Mr. G.  Love them too....along with one of my favorites...that tiny key.
you can see it along the edge there, but you really have to look.  (Sorry about the light.  I need to work on making a place to take photographs, rather than willy nilly around the house.)

This is simply a ball of crochet cotton into which I have pinned several vintage thread buttons and a piece of crochet.  Click to enlarge those buttons...they are old and fantastic!

Another ball of crochet cotton.........with an old watch, etc.  Love the pink pins!!!

Mr. G also gave me the bird pincushion.  It stands alone, but just for this photo, I sat it inside the top of the candleholder.  There are some pretty pink glass buttons and a tiny gold heart pinned into it....the little card is just a little section of one of my old business cards.  And, I love the vintage buttons in the bowl part of the candleholder.

I stitched the flowers in the center of this pincushion.  Another thing I made when we had the downtown studio.  It was fun.  I love the purchased pink flower trim around the edge which I also embellished with some beads.  Found the butterfly pin several years ago and have pinned it into different things over the years.

And, now, scissors!!  I have never wandered over the house looking for scissors before.  I hate to say it...but there really are MORE, although this photo contains the best of them.  Some vintage scissors here too and are not in good shape,  but I felt I wanted them in the photo also.  The embroidery scissors are my favorites.  (Also, on the far left, five tiny scissors, which are really charms of a sort.  So tiny, so cute!)

Here you see most of the embroidery scissors being held in place in a vintage flower bowl with a lid which is supposed to hold fresh flowers.  Well, scissors....flowers....why not?  The scissors in front on the vintage cloth are two of my favorites, both gifts.

See that tiny key I was telling you about....yes, it's right there next to that center heart button.  So cute!  And, these favorite scissors are joined by a pair of black Gingher embroidery scissors.  I've had them for a long time.

Gingher embroidery scissors with roses.......I also have a pair of shears in that pattern.  They are just great.

And, here they are alongside a pair of vintage scissors.  They don't really cut any longer, but they look so cool with a lot of my vintage 'stuff.'

These black scissors on the right...they are really old.  They couldn't cut either, but they are so sweet!

So, there you have it....lots of scissors.  I think they have multiplied like coat hangers do!  OMG!  I should be ashamed to have collected so many.  (Bet, I'm not the only one though.)

(BTW, below you will see those very scissors.  I have used a very old clear glass string of beads to hang from the handle.  And, they are sitting upon a vintage petticoat.  It, too, is falling apart, but is still so very beautiful!!!)

A Church, A Pin, A Dish and Some Crochet

Once again, I am at a loss as to what to post....but, since I've been absent from the blog for so long, I thought you might forgive seeing something from a post or two from the past.  It seems as if blogs are falling along the wayside and I'm not really wanting this one to fade away with the rest, so hopefully, I'll be able to do a better job in whatever  time we have left of the very fleeting year of 2017!

I think I last showed this little quilt in 2008.  It now lives at my youngest brother's house.  It is 17 1/2 inches x 23 1/2 inches, hand appliqued, quilted and embroidered.  And, you'll notice one of my favorite things there......a tree!  Love making those!  Also....there are French Knots, another favorite.
Do you see the city in the background?    And, the little church....I've used that church to make several pieces, long gone to other homes.  Maybe I'll do another one someday.

Those knots!  And, there are little strips of fabric made into a border.  Leftovers from a Log Cabin quilt.

A close-up of the church and tree.  I seem to remember using one strand each of three greens to make the leaves.

Now here are three things I could not and did not make!  That teeny little crocheted pincushion is just dear (and OLD), the petit point basket is dear also and how sweet is that tiny dish...a gift.

 Just beautiful!

I found this pin at a flea market years ago.  Such tiny stitching!  It was love at first sight!

And, once again, that pin!  One of my favorite motifs in stitching is a basket like this one filled with flowers.  I never tire of finding them!

And, so....a new post.  Not the most original I have done....but, it's a post!!
(I'm not pushing my capabilities at this point.)  Hoping you are well and enjoying your summer....❤️

My 2015 Birthday Giveaway!

Today is my seventy-first birthday.  Born, October 18, 1944.  If you've been here for a length of time, then you know I like to have a Giveaway on my birthday.  So...here it is, my friends.  I hope you will enjoy the photos below...and if you'd like a chance to receive these things, kindly make a comment on this post and on Wednesday evening (October 21st), I will choose a winner.  Also, please make sure you leave info for me to reach you...should you be that winner.

So...for you...a pincushion I just finished.  Made from a little piece of fabric and trimmed with the decorative edge of a vintage pillowcase, no longer useful, but the edge is great.  Not only is the edging used on the pincushion, but I'm including a length of it here, as you see, for your own use on a project, along with some pink pearl pins.  Just for fun.

There will also be a string of vintage buttons.  I hope you like them.  I try to find these strings in the flea market from time to time and would enjoy sharing with you.

Of course, I also wanted to put a Satin Stitch heart there too.  You know I love doing those....and I like that I decided to say "ALWAYS STITCH WITH HEART."  My philosophy, for sure.

And, a simple running stitch.  One of the things I am really admiring of late.

This little print fabric is one I have saved for many years.  I love the pink with brown.

By the way, the pincushion is 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" large enough to be useful, small enough to be very cute!

Included will also be a vintage hand towel...with Pink details, of course!

And, then, there is the current issue of Somerset Life magazine.  A fun magazine
to spend some time with this Fall.

So, there you are.  My birthday Giveaway for this year.  I'd love for you to want it, so again, IF you do, then kindly leave that comment, along with info for me to reach you....just in case.

 And, remember....ALWAYS STITCH WITH HEART!

Until Wednesday,
