A Summer Day at the Cottage

It's a quiet summer day here at Bird Nest Cottage, so I thought I'd show a bit of the flowering going on around here.  I do not have a green thumb,  so many of these are in pots, but some actually are in the ground and I have hopes of not killing them.  I'm trying harder than usual, since I LOVE
them so.

Here's a quote I took a fancy to this morning:

"FLOWERS DON'T WORRY ABOUT HOW THEY'RE GOING TO BLOOM.  THEY JUST OPEN UP AND TURN TOWARD THE LIGHT AND THAT MAKES THEM BEAUTIFUL."
Jim Carrey

This Crepe Myrtle tree is really in the wrong place, but I do love this shady little corner.  We will be trimming it in the Fall....it has white blooms, nearly all of them gone right now.

Here we are out front of the cottage......I really do call it a cottage.  Mostly because I just like the way it sounds!

I had some rocks that were collected by my late Mother-in-Law.  They used to have a farm between Harrison and Yellville, Arkansas.  There was a creek and she gathered rocks and arrowheads there.  I ended up with some of those rocks.  I gave some to my son-in-law and he made an angel by their back porch for my daughter.  As we say around here 'I had a fit over it' and the minute I got home had to put an angel in my own flower bed.  I like that we have given a new home to Alleen's rock collection!

The green heart hanging here is MOSS.  Too Cute!  Given to me by my daughter.

 The quotes:

"I would sooner live in a cottage and wonder at everything than live in a castle and wonder at nothing."
 Joan Winmill Brown

"Better my own cottage than the palace of another."
A Welsh Proverb

Looking outward from my front door.  A very beautiful summer day!

Then, outward to the patio...a very HOT place right now.

Also looking outward from the door in the room I call The Pantry.

Just a little visit on a hot summer day.  I am so grateful, not only for my home, but also for air-conditioning.

Love this post! Love the flowers; love the angel; love that strawberry jar full of hens and chickens! You've been busy since I was there. Of course, that's been while. For someone who claims to not have a green thumb, I think you're doing just fine! So glad you're happy in your lovely cottage.

Aren't we blessed to live in a "cottage" ? , I do believe we both love ours equally. Right now I am sitting on my porch listening to the sound of The waterfall in my small pond. It's a cool summer evening in Pa. and sometimes I hear the sound of children in nearby colleges, sweet. ! Thank you for the tour of your lovely home, love the "rock angel" love the pot of succulents, and the view into your patio garden. 😘

I love all your pictures! You live in such a pretty place. I think my house is kind of cottage like and I love it. Good to see you again.

I like the sound of "cottage" also. I always picture the Irish cottage where my mother
was born; very cozy, sweet smelling, a comfortable chair to stitch in or read....in a word -
home. I really enjoyed visiting your cottage tonight.

I am visiting family in the states now and am so envious of all the inviting outdoor space, Of course with Tokyo's heat and mosquitoes, I probably wouldn't want to linger in the garden for very long anyway... but I sure am enjoying time here.

Dear Pat, this is Brenda Wall, but not sure if my id will appear as young grandson has put his Google account in and I don't know how to change it. LOL I read your post this a.m. and it felt so peaceful. I love your cottage and your flowers and your quotes. It is lovely to see how you have made such a loving home and you help me enjoy the small things of life. Think about you a LOT!!!

I love how your front porch is recessed a bit giving you a bit of privacy and seclusion. We used to sit on the front deck a lot until we put a covered swing by the pond. Though I admit that if I didn't have the critters to watch back there, I'd be in the front watching the birds at the feeders.

Your cottage is beautiful....just like you!!
It's too hot to be outside around here :^(
I go out and water LATE in the evening or EARLY in the morning.....
Your flowers are putting on quite a show, and I don't believe a word of "no green thumb"!!!
Hugs to you, and blessings,
J

Oh Pat...I absolutely love this post! I love the flowers all around your cottage, your pretty little porch, the view from your windows and that little angel just made my heart smile! Oh yes I wouldn't be a bit surprised to find an angel in my front garden as well...lol! I have loved the word cottage since I was a little girl and I once read a book where a little gray house was named Dove Cottage...after I grew up I moved into a gray and white cottage...lol!
Enjoy your summer day in your cottage with all your pretty flowers...
Sending hugs and love!
