A Gift and a Lamp Rescue

I had these items waiting in line to be on the blog for a while.....an assortment of things coming my way.  And,  I think...something good that happened this year.  Thanks to a thoughtful friend and my way of collecting things in a serendipitous way.

I have a lovely friend in Texas....Jackie...actually my sister's best friend...who has become a very good friend to me.  I enjoy seeing her whenever I get to visit my hometown.  She sent this very cute card, actually a coaster, and one of my very favorite things to FIND...a heart shaped rock.  Included in the package was this absolutely beautiful embroidered and monogrammed hand towel.  It is BEAUTIFUL.

Now, Jackie knows that the one thing I never could learn to do was to tat, so when I find it at the flea, I want to buy it.  The odds of me finding something embroidered with my initial, and also tatted...well, I just never would have found it, but Jackie did and sent it to me!!!!  I love it.....thank you Jackie...as always, you are so thoughtful and generous.  And,  you watch out for my sister for me and I really appreciate that!

Beautiful!!!

And, so cute!  I have a collection of these heart rocks....one day I will show them.  So fun to come across one by chance, another gift from Jackie.

Here are two Gardenias, caught in bloom.  I love the smell of Gardenia.  These I picked, then just laid them on a paper towel until they were totally dried.  A remembrance of Spring, again, one of the sweetest things from this year.

And, a rose.  This was a pink rose with a bit of yellow, however, it dried this lovely color which I dearly love.

And, here you see some of my favorite thread colors........the Rose and the Gardenia look good there beside the threads, I think.  Do you see that large spool with a bit of crochet?  That is sewing thread, not crochet thread, but I just had to try it and see how it would look.  Makes the tiniest design.  Not bad.  One day, I will add a bit of that to an embroidery project.

LOVE!!!

Now, a word about this lamp.  I bought it at the flea.  It's only about a foot tall.  And, as you can see, there is something missing.

I have no idea what is missing, but I thought the little lamp so sweet and the base so pretty, I bought it anyway.

But, what to do to rescue it?  I searched the house high and low and couldn't find a thing...then realized that I had a pincushion with a beaded edging that matched the base of the lamp.  Oh, why not?  No one is here to care but me and I instantly loved the arrangement.

And, here is is.....

I think the lamp glorifies the pincushion and the pincushion glorifies the lamp.
Win...Win!

The shade is tiny....about four inches.  And, I love the little pull chain.
Adorable.

And, yes, a thing of beauty is a joy forever.

Rescued Patchwork for Winter Warmth

Sandra, from Alabama, asked if I'd show more about the quilts used in the background of the photos in my 9-19-20 post.  That was the one with the embroidered heart pin.
So, of course, I told her I would. And, here they are.
The one taking the place of a spread here is made of rectangles 5 1/2" x 6."  The small quilt is made of                                rectangles 2 1/2" x 3."  All are made from vintage clothing scraps.

I didn't have them on display in the house as I had simply pulled them out of the quilt closet to use as the background of those photos.  So, this evening, I just put them on top of the bed coverings in this room.
It's always fun to "play" and try to come up with something interesting.

I just had to add the bears, a book and some knitting yarn and needles.
I made the bear ages ago....it actually has a felt jacket, but I loved this little vintage baby jacket                                                        so much I wanted it in the photo also.

Each rectangular piece of the smaller quilt is hand embroidered.
There are no quilting stitches.  And, the stitching is done with a variety of colors of embroidery floss.

The beauty of this quilt is in the simplicity of it.

Here you can see the larger quilt has yet to be embroidered.
I intend to embroider it the same way as the smaller one.
That will be something warm to do this winter.

And, as you probably know without me saying....both came from the flea market.  The smaller one I found several years ago.  I don't remember what I paid for it, but it wasn't much.
The larger, unfinished one, I got from Kathy at the Junk House in Beebe just a few weeks ago.
It was $1.00.  I couldn't turn it down.  Of course, it had cried out to be rescued.

The standing bear, and the three pillows came from Good Will...less than $2.00 each.
Hope you enjoyed this little peak at yet another rescue.
And, we will revisit this larger quilt maybe in the Spring when it is completed.

You know I just love rescuing old used quilts. By rescuing, I mean it's fun to find them and then figure out what to do with them.
Sometimes there isn't much left to work with.  It's a challenge.
Sometimes repair is possible, but labor intensive.
And, that is ok by me.
Whatever you might choose to do...you've given that quilt a new life.
And, saved another thing of beauty from the landfill.
I like to think they keep your heart warm as well as your body.

A Heartprint Giveaway Update

Here are the current HEARTPRINTS along with the winners names.
The winners names are on the backs, so they won't know which one they are receiving until it           shows up at their home.  Just a bit of surprise at this point in the year.
                                                            Here are the winners:

                                                             Sandra Stephens
                                                                   Tina Tx
                                                             Marilyn McLeod
                                                                Beverly Long
                                                                    Sandi S

I will need your mailing address so I can get these to you asap.  Even though I may have some of them...please send anyway in case I can't find them...entirely possible the way things are going around here.  I have actually frantically searched for my phone while talking on it....honestly.  The human brain!!!

Remember, these little things I am calling "Heartprints" are pieces from one of my rescued quilts.  They are ALL from one quilt.  I have taken sections from the quilt to form these blocks, and stitched them to an old blanket from the quilt which was used as batting, then I have hand embroidered all the designs on the blocks.  You may display them as you see, or frame them...whatever you like.  I hope you enjoy them.
                                                             The hearts are appliqued.

I'm told this by one of you lovely people out there:
"Our lives are so impacted by Covid. We all need something pretty to be posted by you."
                                                                           Wow!
Thank you, Cindy.  I'll do my best.

Nineteen Years, Where Did They Go??

Nineteen years and we still never forget.

And, today, more than ever, we continue to ask

"God Bless America."

This is a pin #2 of two I made after the events of 9-11-2001.

Pin #1 was lost at the International Quilt Exhibit in Houston that year.

So, I made another.

I'm showing the pattern here and giving you permission to use it if you would like to make one for yourself

or use the flag on another piece of work.

The heart is about three inches x three inches.

The tiny hearts are my Trademark, I suppose, as I seem to embroider them on just about

                                                                  everything I make.

I try to always sign my work.....using a permanent pen.  And, as always....there is usually a tiny heart added.

I would like to thank you all for your patience during the last few months with no blog posts here for your viewing.  I am well, but have been pretty much traumatized as have we all the last months.  I hope YOU are well and that we can all get through the trials and tribulations this year is providing for happier times next year.

I will be posting again very soon and catch you up on my monthly giveaway,

the Heartprint Artwork

I still intend to create twenty-four of them before the year is over.  I have several completed.

More information coming on that in my next post.

Do take care my friends.
