The Thanksgiving Visit

Since things have been so serious around here for so long...I thought I'd share a few photos from Thanksgiving that might show you that this Thanksgiving, we managed to have some fun and laugh. They say laughter is the best medicine and I am sure it is....especially after spending some time with these funny people.  Here is my daughter and son (at her house), engaged in a little exercise routine.   You see a couple of adults....I still see them as they were as kids.  They sure made me laugh here!

And this photo sure makes me smile!  My son with his ninety-four year old grandfather, my father-in-law and the old navy man's step-dad,  Bob - amused at all of us - as he always is.  A great photo!

We played a lot of Pictionary last week!  As you can see, they seem to be having a great time.  I'm not a 'game player' as the whole family will tell you, but I do enjoy playing this game.  Maybe because it is silly and involves drawing??  A margarita doesn't hurt either, this one offered to the photographer (me) by my favorite sister, Debbie.

Scott in a quiet moment.

I have rarely been able to get a photo of the Grand-Dog,  Trixie.  She belongs to Kelly and Rick.  So, finally, with the help of Scott....well, here she is.  And, a great little dog she is.  She sat in a chair at the table when we played our game, probably wondering what her crazy relatives were doing.

Now, I have no memory of taking this photo at all.  But, unless someone took it with my iphone, I must have done it.  So silly and cute!  These two are fifteen months apart.  When they were small, I would have wondered if a picture like this would ever be possible, and yet, I have lived to actually see such things!

This photo was taken by Scott as we dropped him off at the airport in Little Rock last Tuesday.
Hardest thing about visits is saying "Goodbye" at the airport.  I can barely handle it, but seem, at least in this photo, to be doing a pretty good job.  I don't think my sister or my daughter are having that easy a time either, but there you are....a funny little group...making the best of parting, as my sister left the very next day.

I've no idea why, but I always manage to take a photo of Scott as he walks into the airport.  And, so there he goes.  So glad he could come for the visit.  His mother is grateful.  And, thank you, Debbie, your sister is grateful.

Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  And, hope you will visit me again.  I plan on doing a better job of this blog posting in the New Year....hold me to it!

Stay safe, warm and cozy until next time,  ♥ pat

With a Thankful Heart

I found this photograph at the flea market.  It looks like a copy of a book page...which is why these photos are not so good.  But, the photo of this lady spoke to me.  I jumped at the opportunity to buy it.  A dollar.  I looked at it for a very long time.  And, all I could think of was this....because she lived like this....I can live as I do.  I feel for her.  And, I know that she and all like her,  went through what they did so I can have my cute little place where I have just moved.    Just look at her.  What was easy about her life?  What was fun?  What was comfortable?  And, there she is....sitting in the sun...making the best of her day.  We all know there was no light inside that little sod house...no doubt she is happy to see the sun....not only for the light but also the warmth.   And, I'm sitting here at home...warm...comfortable...I owe her.   And, her husband.  As I owe mine.  Yes, this Thanksgiving, I will be remembering her...and the old navy man.

I am full of gratitude this week.  Happy to have a home, the creature comforts.  Children who will spend time with me this Thanksgiving week.  We will be remembering many things this year as we spend the holiday together.  My son will arrive from California late tomorrow.  My daughter and son-in-law will be making our Thanksgiving dinner.  There will be tears and there will be hugs.  But, I, quietly, will also spend some time thinking of this lady.  She is an inspiration, along with all like her.

Wherever you are, I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.  A very Happy Thanksgiving.  And, I hope you 'get' what I am trying to say.  We are all so lucky to have our homes and our loved ones and our friends, and our country.

Do take care, stay warm, laugh as much as you can, give big hugs and give Thanks.  We owe it to all those who came before.

Until next time,  ♥  pat

PS.  I bet she was a quiltmaker!

Fun at Thanksgiving

Oh, I'm so behind in my posting.....how are you out there? I'm sure you may be like me....running as fast as you can to get things done and feeling at the end of the day as if you haven't accomplished a thing. That's me. I'm not very fond of days that end with me wondering what I did all day, with nothing that 'shows.' Do you know that feeling? It's very similar to days when you grocery shop, spend a vast amount of money, haul it all into the house and realize that you don't have much to show for the amount you've spent and the energy it took to get it all home. So similar.

So....I've been very busy, but have nothing of interest to tell you about. I have spent the last hour or so looking at photos I took over the Thanksgiving weekend, choosing these to show you. When I am worn out and feel the need for something to make me smile....I think some cute guys always do the trick! How about these two?

As you may remember, my son Scott came for several days over Thanksgiving week. One of the things he enjoys doing is making bread and he did that at least twice during that week. YUM! A couple of days after Thanksgiving, in his sister's kitchen, he was making some bread and my great nephew, John Carter, was invited to 'help' him. (John Carter is six years old.) So, he made a small loaf of his own....doesn't he look cute in these photos? Well, they both do, actually. John Carter was so proud and pronounced his bread 'fun to make and good to eat.' And, Scott enjoyed having his little second cousin join in the bread making. Adorable.

Are you smiling now? Me, too. Time has passed and they are both back home now. If you will remember, I always dread taking my son to the airport to return to California. I made myself do better this time, but his sister boo-hooed like crazy. She and I may go see him next year....oh, what fun that would be! And, I'm sure more bread would be involved....well, I should lose weight before then...oh dear!

Hope you are all well.......and taking time to smile and enjoy the cute guys in your family....of course, the cute girls too!!!!! pat
