A Little Trunk, Filled

There's this little trunk that lives in my dining room.  It's FULL of stuff.  Some stuff leaves the trunk from time to time and new old stuff takes it's place.   Years ago, I decorated the inside of the lid with a beautiful bird and roses over top of some antique ledger sheets which came out of a ledger in the office of my son-in-law's family store.

(I'll show that further in this post.)

Otherwise it is unchanged from when I bought it.  It's a really fun thing to fill and refill.

So, here are some of the goodies (and there are things underneath things!) The sweetest cup with a mismatched saucer.  A really cute heart I bought for, I think, a quarter some years ago.  A hanky from Kathy's flea market I brought home last week.  The tiniest cross-stitch.  Under that is an embroidered rose, also from Kathy's.
There's a cross-stitch rose there on a blue background...so pretty.  A quilt square from the 30's.

A pink embroidered pincushion I made, a McCoy flower vase filled with perle cotton.
A silk ribbon bag filled with lavender.  A silk rose.  Behind that pincushion is a swatch of fabric I liked the colors of....and,

a wonderful pin I bought at the Houston Quilt Festival years ago.
It looks like a tiny quilt.  Just gorgeous!
And, then...the angel frame...holds a photo of my daughter and her son.
So cute!

That tiny stitching on a handkerchief.

One of my very favorite quotes from artist Katie Daisy.
And, I say it all the time.
When I drive down a country road and see all the wildflowers this is what runs through my mind.

 A closeup.

 And another.

 And, more.

My favorite colors.
❤️

So, here is the inside of the trunk lid.  I covered the inside of the lid with ledger paper, then added paper napkins over it.  Those roses....just loved them and I really like the way it turned out.

Using paper napkins this way is really easy and lots of fun.

And, here is the bird....from another paper napkin.
I'm very fond of this little trunk and do enjoy
filling it with different things from time to time.

So, another Wednesday.
I think they go by really fast.
So,  I guess I'll say again...see you Sunday!

Last Wednesday, Part 2 and A Bit More

Remember last Wednesday's post....I got frustrated with the computer and it was way late in the a.m., around 1:40, so I declared there should be a Part 2.
Well, this is it.  I have figured out my computer problem.
(No, I didn't, my son clued me in to what my problem was, so - solved!)
So, here are some things I would have shown you then,
beginning with the photo above....my tiny space at the flea.
I've added a few things and sold a few things too.
When next I am there, I will bring a few things home.
Right now, it's about as crowded as I want it to get, so I'll thin it out
if customers don't do it for me.

And, an additional thought on that.  Kathy and I have changed our "hours" at the store.  We,  which means Kathy and me, or, "The Minions," as Morgan calls us, will be in the store EVERY OTHER Wednesday.
That will allow her more time to do the zillion things she does every week and it will also give me more time to come up with treasure for my little space.
I think it's a really good idea.

 Back to Part 2:
Here is one of the zillion or so paintings that have found their way into the store recently.
Somehow, they eventually seem to find their way back out into the universe.  I brought a couple home with me.  But, not this one.

All kinds of goodies here....notice this painting.

 A closer look.

Do you remember I mentioned last week that I came home with some dishes?
These are the ones.  I fell for them the instant I saw them.
They said "cottage" to me right away.

LOVE!!!

I had intended to set a table with them in my last post....but,
well, we know what happened, so I did that today.
I could set a table in a few different places in this cottage, but for some reason, I thought
it would be "cute" to set the work table in the room I call The Pantry.
Well, I do keep food, and Pantry 'stuff' in this room, as it's right off the kitchen, but,
I also have a coffee station in it,  dish storage, and, of all things....
it's my little "art studio" too.  I like rooms that can serve more than one purpose.
And, since I live alone....I can pretty much use any room I have for anything I want.
There are certainly no rules and regulations I am following here.

So, I set the table for two.
Just because I could.

So, okay.  Food is in that cabinet with the doors.
And, heaven only knows what is in all the rest.
At some point pretty soon, I'm emptying those shelves, putting my cookbooks and other things there.  Some of these dishes, etc. will go.
 It's a plan anyway.

Notice the little Salt and Pepper shakers.
I have carefully saved these for many years.
They are the only thing my maternal grandmother ever gave me.
   So I have treasured them.
And, since I never knew my paternal grandmother, they are even more special.

 Cute, aren't they?

So, I thought I'd also turn off the lights.  Light a candle.
As a matter of fact, I often have only candle light on Sunday's.
I also love to have candlelight when it's raining.
Especially in the evening.
Cozy!

There are four each of cup and saucers, dinner plate, salad plate, dessert plate and soup bowl.
Plus the tea pot.
And they are so pretty.....what a great find at $15.00!!

   And, the name "Peasantry."
Right up my alley.
Indeed!
And, like I always say, you never know what you will find at the Junk House.

Even though I will not be at the store this coming Wednesday, I will still post.  No idea what you will be seeing though....want to take a chance and come back for a visit?
If you do....well, thank you for that!

until next time

Wednesday at the Flea Market

So I promised a flea market post on Wednesday night.  Little did I know that it would spill over into Thursday morning.  Trouble with the computer.  Well, really....it was trouble with the operator of the computer.  I have spent several hours on this....and it turns out there was no way I could get all the photos to cooperate with me....so I'll do a Part 2 on Sunday...because now all I want to do is go to bed.

It was a very busy day at the flea.  Kathy and Morgan had gone to some auctions over the weekend, bringing back lots of goodies and it was non-stop for shoppers today.  I'm tired and I didn't do much...Kathy, now, she had to be exhausted.

I got to sort stuff and since it's one of my favorite things to do....I had a FUN day!
It helps, of course...that it's also my therapy day and my flea market friends make me laugh a lot.  That always makes a really good day.

So, I'll show you some of the things that have gone out the door.

And, one thing that came in the door.  That is the tree in this first photo.

If you read my post of June 5, you will remember I talked about trees.
Well, Kathy remembered that and at one of the auctions, she found this beautiful tree.

It was drawn using Prismacolor pencils on paper by
Linda Williams Palmer
2008

And, just a little "aside" my maiden name is Williams.
 I like those little coincidences!

It is AMAZING!

 Here is the story.

And, the really nice part....Kathy gifted it to ME!    I just love it!
I hope you enjoy reading the story of this drawing of the
Championship Ginko Tree of Arkansas.

THANK YOU,  KATHY!
❤️

While I didn't get as many photos on this post as I wanted, I do hope you enjoy the ones I did manage to get.  So enjoy seeing some of the goodies available today.
A lot of the blue pieces...including the tea set in the basket, left with new owners today.

This painting is huge....lots of wood items in the trunks above and behind that quilt, which also left today, is the cutest little ironing board.  Since it came to my house, I'll have to show it to you on Sunday.  It's adorable!

More from inside the trunk....and boy, did I have a fit over those dishes.  Not a complete set, but oh, so cool.  I'm going to set the table with those and you will see that on Sunday too.

We are so proud of the library area of the store.  A place to sit and read if you need a break.
The floral loveseat is sold.  The green one is for sitting and reading.  The books are $1 each.
You can't beat that....and there is a huge variety of them.

 More dishes, quilts and miscellany.

And, my goodness!
This chest is wonderful....with a marble top.
There is a huge basket under that quilt....and it's filled with small paintings and such.

The bed sold right away.  I knew it would.  It's lovely.
There were also two sets of twin beds...both sold.

And, here is the cabinet that I've shown you before.  It hasn't sold yet.  Which surprises me.  Probably because I just love the old thing.  It haunts me.....since I would buy it myself, but there is absolutely NO room for it at Bird Nest Cottage.
Well, there IS, but I'd have to give up something already in place...so hard for me to do.

Wonderful old wooden boxes on top....

And, thus endeth the tour for tonight.
It's 1:40 a.m.
I'm going off to dreamland...probably to think of all the fun at the Junk House today!!
See you on Sunday night.

until next time

Flowers, Tea and a Postcard

Last Tuesday, I received a text from my friend, Brian.  I suppose you could say he was "on my case" because I had skipped a few Wednesday posts, but it was such a cute message, I wanted to share it with you.

"JUST CHECKING IN ON YOU TO SAY HELLO AND WHERE ARE OUR WEDNESDAY POSTS THAT WE GOT TO SEE ON THE BLOG I'M MISSING SOME BIRD NEST ON THE GROUND JUST SAYING."

(I smile every time I read it.)

Seems I said there would be a post on Sunday nights also....hence this one.  You know,  I find it isn't always easy to come up with something.  Today, for instance, I didn't have one clue, but I was involved with some flowers...therefore you are seeing flowers tonight.  I never tire of them and since I don't have a green thumb...it's rare I can show any.  Hope you enjoy!

I purchased this little pot of Tuberous Begonias and had them sitting on the table...in passing by couldn't help but be surprised at how translucent the centers were.   Just a little light from the window shining through....what a glorious sight!!

Amazing!

Just beautiful!!!

And, Bird Nest Cottage is blooming!

Once again, there are Daisies!!!

And, there are Hydrangeas!
I couldn't resist putting one in this great glass vase I got from the flea market a few weeks ago.  I also put some sprigs of Mint in there too.  Smells great!

These are really bright....I was expecting a softer, paler pink...but since I'm challenged with a non-green thumb, I'll take whatever I get and be happy.

They really make the kitchen cheery!

I also wanted to show you what I got in the real mail....a Post Card.  I can't even remember the last time someone sent me a REAL Post Card.  Just made my day!  And, it is from my dear friend, Kay.
She is such a thoughtful person.

Here's what it says....there's a word or two in the dark....

"Home is where the Heart is
Lie it east - or lie it west;
And, my heart is with the dear ones
In the old Home nest."

And, Kay's message says:

"Well, you can guess why you're getting this card:
House, flowers, nest...it was screaming your name."

Another dear friend making me smile.

Flowers, then friends....so I thought it a good time to try out this new tea.
I do love my hot tea.
(The old navy man always said I just liked to hold a hot cup!)
Actually, this tea is delicious.  It smells just like a Mounds or Almond Joy candy bar.
Since I'm allergic to chocolate, I certainly can't have one of those, but I can SMELL this tea!
 And, drink it too!

This little coffee station is set up in my pantry.  I don't drink coffee, but it's there in case someone wants a cup.  I'm showing it to you because of the flowers.
I think they are pretty.....but they aren't real.  I found them at Hobby Lobby the other day...50 per cent off, so I made this little arrangement.
I'm good with it not being real.
(Sometimes I don't feel real either.)

Another plant in the front porch area is this Gardenia

This is its second or third year and I haven't killed it yet.
And, it smells divine!

So, there we are for a Sunday Night.

See you Wednesday with a report from the flea market.
