Wednesday at the Flea Market

So I promised a flea market post on Wednesday night.  Little did I know that it would spill over into Thursday morning.  Trouble with the computer.  Well, really....it was trouble with the operator of the computer.  I have spent several hours on this....and it turns out there was no way I could get all the photos to cooperate with me....so I'll do a Part 2 on Sunday...because now all I want to do is go to bed.

It was a very busy day at the flea.  Kathy and Morgan had gone to some auctions over the weekend, bringing back lots of goodies and it was non-stop for shoppers today.  I'm tired and I didn't do much...Kathy, now, she had to be exhausted.

I got to sort stuff and since it's one of my favorite things to do....I had a FUN day!
It helps, of course...that it's also my therapy day and my flea market friends make me laugh a lot.  That always makes a really good day.

So, I'll show you some of the things that have gone out the door.

And, one thing that came in the door.  That is the tree in this first photo.

If you read my post of June 5, you will remember I talked about trees.
Well, Kathy remembered that and at one of the auctions, she found this beautiful tree.

It was drawn using Prismacolor pencils on paper by
Linda Williams Palmer
2008

And, just a little "aside" my maiden name is Williams.
 I like those little coincidences!

It is AMAZING!

 Here is the story.

And, the really nice part....Kathy gifted it to ME!    I just love it!
I hope you enjoy reading the story of this drawing of the
Championship Ginko Tree of Arkansas.

THANK YOU,  KATHY!
❤️

While I didn't get as many photos on this post as I wanted, I do hope you enjoy the ones I did manage to get.  So enjoy seeing some of the goodies available today.
A lot of the blue pieces...including the tea set in the basket, left with new owners today.

This painting is huge....lots of wood items in the trunks above and behind that quilt, which also left today, is the cutest little ironing board.  Since it came to my house, I'll have to show it to you on Sunday.  It's adorable!

More from inside the trunk....and boy, did I have a fit over those dishes.  Not a complete set, but oh, so cool.  I'm going to set the table with those and you will see that on Sunday too.

We are so proud of the library area of the store.  A place to sit and read if you need a break.
The floral loveseat is sold.  The green one is for sitting and reading.  The books are $1 each.
You can't beat that....and there is a huge variety of them.

 More dishes, quilts and miscellany.

And, my goodness!
This chest is wonderful....with a marble top.
There is a huge basket under that quilt....and it's filled with small paintings and such.

The bed sold right away.  I knew it would.  It's lovely.
There were also two sets of twin beds...both sold.

And, here is the cabinet that I've shown you before.  It hasn't sold yet.  Which surprises me.  Probably because I just love the old thing.  It haunts me.....since I would buy it myself, but there is absolutely NO room for it at Bird Nest Cottage.
Well, there IS, but I'd have to give up something already in place...so hard for me to do.

Wonderful old wooden boxes on top....

And, thus endeth the tour for tonight.
It's 1:40 a.m.
I'm going off to dreamland...probably to think of all the fun at the Junk House today!!
See you on Sunday night.

until next time

Roses on Wednesday

I am certainly missing the boat getting things posted by Wednesday night aren't I?  So, I'm thinking Thursday is much more realistic.  This photo is showing some things I managed to bring home yesterday...with a few from past visits to the flea market as well.  On Sunday, I will have a post about the flea with an amusing story to go along with it...but, for now, I hope you enjoy seeing a few new treasures keeping company with some of my older treasures.

This was the last thing I chose that day.  Because, as you know, I'm a fool for a beautiful rose.  The artists name is on it, but it's too faint for me to read.  I think it is beautiful!!!  $1.00

This platter and the buttons I'm using as a nest here came from The Junk House in earlier times.  I don't remember where the bird flew here from, but she seems perfectly at home in her button nest!

OMG!  I can't even tell you how I really feel about that jar.  It was love at first sight, but I didn't buy it the first time I saw it, or even the second for that matter.  After a few weeks, apparently no one was going to buy it but me....so it came to my house and I began to fill it with buttons.  Last summer when I was in San Francisco visiting my son....well, I happened upon a box of buttons...mother of pearl...and I bought it, knowing full well it would just about fill up that jar.    The jar is embossed with flowers, but with the buttons, it doesn't really show up well.  No matter....I'm nuts over it anyway.

So, here's more gorgeousness....this lovely book, a vegetable bowl and a decorative box.  But, first the book:

Last year it was Paris in Bloom.  This year, New York in Bloom.  Think next year is London in Bloom.  I'm looking forward to San Francisco in Bloom, fingers crossed.

You can almost smell the flowers.
Of course, it didn't come from the flea market....but I had to show it anyway.  Because of that rose plate!  Look at all that pink!  Oh, yeah.....you know I'm going to say it...always makes me think of French Knots!!!

I've had this pin for a very long time....so cute.  To me it just looked like it could roll right through  Central Park!
Since there is no bookstore here (yeah...sure rubs me the wrong way!), I ordered this one from amazon.com.  Well, what's a girl to do when she wants a book?

Then, there is this decorative box....so feminine and fussy.  It will definitely make another appearance on the blog at some point....I'm searching for the right words to add the perfect "finishing touch" to it.  And, by that, I mean the perfect embroidered words.

Love the detail and that lining is in pretty good shape, considering.  I love the edge on it.

 Even the bottom is pretty.

And, here is the vegetable bowl.  So pretty!  I loved the shape of it.  Perfect for serving a delicious green vegetable...let me guess, Cabbage?  But many others too.

 And, it's marked.

There are three of these with the cutest little feet.  You could use them for a multitude of things, but I imagined a little bar of fragrant decorative soap there.

And this vase.  Another embossed clear glass beauty.  And BIG.  I'm going to put some actual real flowers in it soon........It's going to be one of my favorites, for sure.

So, how am I supposed to resist a thing such as this?  A beautiful garment made for a child.  Although the bodice and the skirt have been separated from each other (why?), and it's stained, it's still beautiful.

And, this crocheted trim is fabulous.  Looks to me like it was crocheted with a size 0 hook.  Just lovely.

There was also a small embroidery hoop.  An older one and with a bit of crochet in it.  So very cute!
 It's about four inches.

The front of the bodice is so cute...maybe I can improve it a little bit, although to me it is special just the way it is.

 And, the back.  Adorable!

 And, the hemline.  Gorgeous!

And, here's the dress in a lovely basket tote.  Who can resist those?  Not me.

And, once again.....more words cut from books.  I'm not sure, but I don't think I'm going to be able to stop doing this for a while here....it's so much fun!

So there.  This week's flea market update, I guess.  I'll have more on Sunday...an amusing story, and some very old photographs.

until next time

What I Saw Yesterday

Yesterday was "my day" at the flea...I always look forward to it.  And, I intended to post about it last night.  But, April 15th was looming over me, so I spent the time dealing with the paperwork for getting my taxes done as I had an appointment this a.m. with my "tax lady."  Whew.  Glad that's over.
I always like to check that off my list.

Anyway, sorry to have kept you waiting.

As I always say, "you never know what you will find at the Junk House!"  Kathy is always getting in more flatware.  She and I had just filled this big basket with a ton of flatware when  lady came in looking for lots of flatware.  She makes wind chimes with it.  After looking through it for a bit, she asked Kathy what she would take for the whole basket, they negotiated, and the lady left with it all.  Happy as could be.  So was Kathy.  The best kind of deal.  There's more, of course.  There is always more.

Something very pretty and blue to serve gravy and sauces in.  English.
 It will strike someone's fancy.

And, this pretty little batch of china.  I like the shape of the cups and the handles too.
Reduced from $25 to $15.

A portfolio of sketches....they are delightful.  They would be lovely framed, of course.

Here's just one of them.

Someone might want to spend some time with this little lady.  She has a very pleasant look on her face.

And, you can see her here on top of my favorite old cabinet.  I really like that old cabinet...but, alas, no room for it in this house....I can't imagine why.  Kathy had two of these white rose garlands....I put one up here....because I like how it looks against the old wood.  So sweet!!!  Seriously, if I had room for this cabinet I would be in big trouble.

Here are two of the largest pieces of tatting I have seen.  Wonderful.  I forgot to measure them, but I believe they are about 8" x 10" (or so).  A bit of pressing and they'd be gorgeous!

So, Kathy had this big, big blue bowl.  The kind that has a pitcher.  I have a couple of them I purchased from her a while back......I love them.   She wanted me to fill it with something pretty and find a place for it.  So...what does my mind always run to...yes, linens.
So before I knew it, I had filled the bowl and now you can't see it...but, have no fear, you should feel free to look them all over...

So here's me....holding some of the linens out of the way so you can see the floral gorgeousness of this big bowl.  Lovely!!!

I managed to come home with a few things...I'm holding them back because I think I can make a couple or three posts from the lot.  Some nice things....you'll see.

(And, an update....yes, I came home with that fish from last week.  Julie, from Japan, was very helpful in identifying it as a chopstick rest and went so far as to show me her own collection of them. And, it was wonderful.  Thanks, Julie!)

The Color Blue, Birds and other Things

After several months of not blogging...here I am.  I seem to have crossed over the hump I was stranded on and not only have I been quilting, but I feel, once again, like posting on this blog.  Oh, my goodness gracious....thank goodness!  I hope you are all well.  Not really knowing what to post about, I decided to talk about something blue.  Although there isn't much of it here in this cottage....I do like a bit of it now and again.  Some of these things have come to live with me recently and some have been here a while.  Some are gifts.

Let me begin with this little blue bird.  It's cast iron...painted blue...a gift from my friend, Jim.  I thought it fit right in with these other bits of blue today.

This absolutely lovely bluebird bowl was given to me recently by my friend, Kathy.  It's ADORABLE!!!  The little heart dish sitting inside I found years ago....for something like a quarter.  I think they are dear together.

Don't you think so too?  The bluebird clock is called a Songbird clock and is from Germany.  Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, but when it does, the little bird chirps and moves.  I found it several years ago.

This lovely tea towel is embroidered by hand.........with a pretty yellow checkerboard trim.  Another gift from Kathy.  Doesn't it just 'go' well with all the blue things here?

The bedspread you see peeking out underneath this linen piece is from my Mother-in-law's guest bedroom and there on top is a linen table runner, very wide, another piece from Kathy.  It is DEAR!!!
I had a fit when I saw it....such beautiful hand embroidery along with beautifully done cross-stitch.

This is stitched across both ends of the cloth.

And, the White on White embroidery is to die for.  Truly beautiful.

Just another peek at the bird.....

and a bit more of the embroidered edge...it's four inches deep.

You all know I just love the birds, the stitching, well, all these wonderful pieces.  They fit right into my house and I'm so grateful to have them to admire each day.  I found these two quotes and thought I'd add them to today's post.  They are me...all over!

"I'm always chasing rainbows, Waiting to find a little blue bird in vain."
Joseph McCarthy

"I suppose I am a Sparrow, a stay-at-home bird."
Gladys Tabor

Yes, indeed.  There I am.  I'll be doing my best to post again very soon.........hang in there with me, as I know many of you have.  And, do take care.  Be well and be happy!
