Six Rescued Pillows

There are six pillows on this chair.  All came from the flea market or Good Will.
So, in my mind, I have rescued them.  And, they nearly all need a little refreshment of some kind.

First, the large ruffled one in the back.  Actually, all it needs is a good pressing of the ruffles.

I don't think it was ever used...seems to me it was just packed away for a time and never ironed and spotlessly clean.

Then, there is the 'alphabet pillow' as I call it.  Woven fabric....loved it.  Could use a bit of clean up.

I'm going to take off that cording on the edge and either replace it, or try something else.

I'm not sure I've ever said it here...but I love seeing the alphabet on just about any kind of needlework.

An old faded rose colored pillow.
It has a machine made lacey trim on the edge and an appliqued basket filled with ribbon roses.
It could use a little resewing in some places on the edge.
Still very sweet.

I found this bird needlepoint pillow in a bin of linens and other textiles.
Of course, I had to have it...love the bird AND the green background.

It needs a little bit of refreshment also...mainly re-stuffing.

Behind it is a burlap pillow with a lace band.  It's in very good condition...but I felt it needed a little          something extra, so I added the twine with a bird and heart charm, tied it in a bow, and pinned all to   the pillow with a golden bird/nest/egg pin.

This is the floral fabric sawdust stuffed pincushion found at the flea quite a while ago.
It is stuffed so full, it weighs a ton.
Aside from being well used, the ruffle is coming undone on each end, so I'll repair that.
It's a very old fabric...of course in colors I just love.

So, there you are....six pillows in various stages of rescue/repair.
With a little work, they will last for a very long time.
And, they will be much loved.

A Little More Pink and a Bird

My friend, Sherry, likes it when I show some of my favorite sewing "ingredients" on a plate or platter.
And, actually, I enjoy creating these little "collections."
So, tonight I took a look at this little plate, at the time holding a burning candle, and thought I might do this one just for Sherry.

There is an assortment of things on this little salad sized plate.  It's one of those odd things you buy because there is only one available...and it's just so darn pretty!
There is a tiny 2 1/2 in square crocheted pincushion.  Above it is a magnetized butterfly which is a needle holder.  A sweet rose bud which is really a boutonniere.
At the top there is a resin basket applique that I bought many years ago to attach to a piece of furniture.  I never did.
There is a lovely blue bird handkerchief...so sweet.
A large covered button I made quite a while ago....lots of French Knots that I love to stitch.
There's some pink and ecru lace...and there, underneath the plate, some tiny doilies.
A sweet bejeweled butterfly pin and lastly.....
seven Mother-of-Pearl buttons in graduated sizes.
Surely at some point, I will find the perfect project on which to sew a complete line of buttons.

Some closeups.

What would be your favorite of these things on a beautiful plate?
Or,
is your favorite thing the plate?

There's No Chair Like An Old Chair

I know I have too many old chairs in the house.  Some of them are way past their prime.  Like this one.  Gosh, I have a chair here from my elementary school (long torn down), and that is pretty old.
They come to me from various places and people and I can't seem to say no to them.  However, Bird Nest Cottage is reaching it's chair maximum.  I could be talked into more....but some would have to go and that is where there is a problem.  I just hate to see them go.  This one is one of my favorites.  When I bought it, I thought I'd try to re-upholster it in a sepia color with lots of lace and trims and such.  Have I?  No.  So, I thought, just for fun, that I would just add a few things here and there and pretend I was getting ready to actually do that little chore.  So, here is the chair....undressed.....

And, then "Dresssed."  A plain pillow, an embroidered pillow, a crocheted and embroidered panel, and then, a tatted linen doily over top.  Gee, I love it just like that!

By the way, this chair used to be covered with green upholstery.  Now, it looks like a rather dusty gray green and there were flowers in there too, but hard to see.

Here it is with a crocheted doily over top.  Even over top of that tatted piece.

 A close up.

And, here with a table runner over top.  Battenburg lace.  Really pretty.

Here it is with a different crocheted piece over top.

And, again, a different one over top.

Some kind of feed sack ... well, it says Texas, how could I not?

A Home Sweet Home embroidery I bought for just a couple of dollars.

This a pansy crocheted apron I just draped over the back of the chair.

This is some lovely embroidery on the center of that panel in the seat of the chair.

And, then, an embroidered linen doily over top.  Quite nice.

The chair has as soft and smooth a finish as there could be...probably worn by the touch of many hands.  I do love it.  But, what will be it's fate?  I don't know, but I'll probably be playing with it for some time to come as I can't seem to decide just how I will finish it   You can bet you will see whatever it is though. And, it will be white or off-white for sure.

Over the Door Storage, #2

Some of you have emailed, asking for me to show ALL of the shoe organizers I have around the house, none of which, by the way, have shoes in them.  So, this morning, I took my camera around to photograph these things.  I won't spend much time on them, as you already know the story and get the drift.   This one is on the other side of the one you saw last.  You know, lace, etc.  This closet is right inside my bathroom door, on the left.  It is a large closet.  I will show you a peek.  And, this is actually the first shoe organizer I put up.

I have had my thread in drawers, boxes and thread racks...all of which make me nuts.  So, the day I thought of this...I thought maybe it would work better for me.  I do have to say, I love it.  However, it may not be for you.  I have sorted thread into colors and I can see it all fairly easily.  Then, it's all hidden away.  Like I said, it may not be for you, but I like it.

This is the inside of the closet.  I knew when I moved in here just what would go in this closet.  I'll show it in detail in some other post on some other day.

This closet is also in my bathroom....back in the little room with the toilet.  Well, there should be something to look at in that little space, so there is this closet....vintage clothing, to begin with, but when you open it up....well,

fabric!

There are four closets in my bathroom.....yes, four.  Two, you just saw,  there is also one for my clothes, and one with a secret collection.  You will see that when I show you the great storage this house has.
For those of you who haven't read my blog that long....well, at my other house, I had a studio in the backyard which housed ALL my STUFF!  It was 500 square feet, with lots of shelving.  Wonderful space.  I miss it, of course, but thanks to the storage in this house, I have found a home for most of my stuff....and what I can't store...well, it's right in plain sight.  And, that's ok with me.

Now, this closet is in the garage.  And, it's one of my favorites.  Why?  Well, I call it the Tool Closet.
Here, you see more fabric is stored on the outside of the door....

But when you open it....well, there is the vacuum cleaner, mops, brooms, etc.  (Another door, which houses the hot water heater), shelves for cleaning supplies, etc., and on the inside of the door....YES,
 TOOLS!

I love it when I need the hammer, a screwdriver, wire cutters, or whatever, I just walk out in the garage, open the door and there they all are.

 So convenient!

 A peek inside.

Now, what do you think?  Shoe organizers.  Well worth the $5, I do believe!
Well, ok.  So, not many want all that stuff so 'out there.'  But, me, I'm fine with it.  I do love to pretty much know where everything is and be able to put my hands on something when I need it.

(Of course, that only works on days when I remember where the storage things are!!!)

And, next time...something completely different!
 Take care. ❤️
